...blessings He has given us in the local church. Such beautiful examples given to us in the Bible --last Sunday we studied Lydia, a member of the church at Philippi.
Well, I'm a member of the church at Cottondale. And, it has been a tremendous blessing to our family. The greatest joy of a church that blesses its members is that it allows those members to be a blessing to others. That's the true growth of a church, the multiplication of blessings that flow through the church to reach the unsaved.
Romans 12:5 describes us: "So we, being many, are one body in Christ; and every one members one of another." And, again in 1 Corinthians 12:12 "For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ." And in 1 Corinthians 12:27 "Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particlar."
As we love Christ -- who loved us before we ever knew Him -- we must love those who are "one body in Christ." Do so, and that love grows and encompasses even more, dwelling on the opportunities for service that glorify and honor our Lord.
Are all the members of our church lovable? A resounding YES! And, how do we know this for certain? For God so loved each one of them that He sent His only begotten Son. He first loved us.
What does He ask in return? "As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. " (Colossians 2:6-7)
So, while I spend some time with our Lord giving thanks for First Baptist Church, Cottondale, please take a moment and give thanks for your church. And, if by some unfathomable reason you do not have a church home, please feel free to share ours. There's plenty of room -- and God loves you, as do we.
